ADVENTURE

AS WILD AND AS SPECIAL AS YOU DREAM IT TO BE

In Chi Phat there is an adventure for everyone

Light, medium or hard level adventures. From half day to multiple days in the forest. Taking it easy at the village or going for a wild experience... Chi Phat has much to offer to the adventurous traveler as well as to those who enjoy more gentle excursions.

Activities

You can trek or mountain bike to explore the village or the deep forest. Early starters can bird-watch from a traditional rowing boat on the misty river. Search for wildlife signs at dawn, noon and dusk at seasonal waterholes. Halloween fans can venture into bat caves and ancient burial sites. Or patrol with our forest rangers, going far off the beaten track as only our most intrepid trekkers do.

More of a relax traveller? You can stay close to the village swimming at waterfalls, fish for lobsters at night, and learn to cook traditional Khmer food. And for all to enjoy, make a life-long souvenir gift of your visit by planting a tree at the Million Tree Nursery.

Trekking off the beaten path. Deep in the jungle. Play an active part in forest protection.

Chi Phat ecotourism community supports teams of rangers that patrol the forest.

The teams look for, and report, illegal activities such as fires, logging and hunting. They often remove snares (traps). Rangers have no external funding. By joining them, you are directly contributing to forest protection.
Do not expect it to be easy! Few of them speak English, but all are former poachers, so they know the forest better than most. They may take you well off the track, often cutting their way through the jungle. You will walk like a ranger, sleep like a ranger, and eat like a ranger. Buy your supplies with them in the market on the morning you leave. Our Field Guide for Volunteer Community Rangers gives more information.

Includes backpack, hammock, mosquito net, water, tarpaulin, field guide.

Depending on the patrol area, there may be extra costs for motos or boats to the forest.

Guides

As every other service from our community, the guides rotate turns to take visitors for adventures. Some guides speak basic English, some very little. Some guides from the village have turned from pachers into guides, so they know the forest better than anybody. Guides taking you to the forest will carry everything needed for cooking meals, usually there's a cook coming along aswell to the forest trips.

Equipment

We provide medium size rucksacks for trekking and mountain biking, which can carry all you need. You will also have a hammock with mosquito net and blanket if you spend a night in the forest. You do not need to bring a tent or sleeping bag.

We provide all food while on the trail, and jungle cooks to prepare meals, so you will not need cooking equipment. The jungle cooks also boil water for drinking while on the trail, so a personal water filter or purifying tables are optional. For kayaking and boats we provide life vests.

If you take a bird watching tour, we lend you binoculars (no charge), but you may prefer your own. Other tours do not provide binoculars.
